Alice in Wonderland was first produced at The Grand Opera House (York) in 1989 and has enjoyed over 2,000 performances since, making this adaptation one of the most successful versions of Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s story ever written. It can be staged with just 8 actors/actresses (that involves most of the cast playing 3 or 4 characters), but it does lend itself equally well to much larger companies; in fact there are no fewer than 24 speaking and singing parts.
This adaptation draws out all the humour and magic of the original story and creates an exciting and challenging musical, ideal for professional companies as well as schools. Audience involvement and participation is a particular feature in this show! It was first performed at The Bryanston Arts Centre and The Gardner Arts Centre from November 1993 to January 1994 and ran for 53 performances.
Minimum cast size (with most of the cast playing several parts): 8 But the show works very well with a much larger cast.
